Help keep indoor allergens in the office under control with these tips

46015150_SFor allergy sufferers, relief can’t come fast enough. But when allergy symptoms start manifesting at work, it could mean your office is loaded with allergy triggers. Allergens are all over and here are some ways to keep your office clean and sneeze free.

  • Dust – Dust accumulates on every surface and if you don’t stay on top of it, it can cause major problems. Stacks of paper seem to collect the most dust in an office. Keep those papers filed away so dust can’t take up residence there. Encourage employees to keep their desks clean and to periodically wipe down unused portions of the desk where dust can accumulate.
  • Strong smells – What seems like a lovely scent to one person can be a breathing nightmare for someone else. Strong smells like perfume, air fresheners and strong cleaning products can leave a lingering smell that can make breathing difficult for asthma and allergy sufferers.
  • HVAC units – It’s a good idea to keep your work space’s HVAC components (vents, filters and ducts) regularly checked and cleaned often. Just like at home, anything that lingers in the HVAC system will get pushed to every part of the building when the heat or A/C comes on. Change the filters every three months to keep air quality high.

No one wants to come to work and immediately start suffering from allergy problems. There is a lot of allergy inducing phenomenon’s you can’t control (weather, pollen levels, animal dander, ect…) so do what you can to make sure every employee has a clean and allergy-free workplace.
